Parents: Learning to Cope is Better than Making Them Happy

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list suicide as the second leading cause of death for those between the ages of 25 and 34. It’s also the second leading cause of death among college students. Many take their life because they think they’ll never be happy like they think they should be. PARENTS – we do not benefit our children by letting them get their way and always be happy. Part of the role of a parent is helping your children learn to navigate disappointments and struggles. Life is not always happy. It’s also not fair. Teach those lessons early and your kids have a better chance of finding satisfaction, peace, and joy – despite their circumstances. If you don’t help them learn those lessons early, they run the risk of feeling like an isolated failure when things aren’t going their way.
