*This is the last post from our old blog. If you’re reading it here, it means you’re looking at the new version of our DentonsLive webpage.
We began our family blog a year ago. We were preparing to step out on probably the wildest adventure we’ve ever taken as a family. It began with a “Goodbye” to our Grace Church family in Elgin, Illinois. Friends and family we dearly loved, and still do. The very next day, we launched a brand new family story with www.DentonsLive.com.
Though I’ve dominated the writing on this blog, everyone in the family has contributed entries over the last year. Plus, much of what I write is about them. Sometimes with their permission; and sometimes without.
I look back a year later and see a massive amount of change we’ve endured. Some has been good, and other parts have been heartbreaking. We’ve discovered more friends, and a new church family at Waterbrook Bible Fellowship in Wylie, Texas. We’re not quite at the one-year anniversary point in Texas yet, because we spent some time waiting on the Lord to sell our house and wrap up loose ends before we left Illinois. AND we had an amazing family trip to bridge the time between a tear-filled departure from Illinois (Elgin, South Elgin, Moweaqua, Bethany), to a homeless arrival in Texas. It helped make the transition about new family opportunities, and a little less about losses so real you could feel them in the heavy air of our van as we pulled out of each town on our way south.
After a year of documenting some of the ups, downs, trials, fun, laughter, embarassments of the Denton family, it’s time we take the next step forward. That’s why, in the days ahead, you’ll see a NEW Denton’s Live website. It’s indicative of the changes that have happened to us in the last 12 months. New look. New features. New smell! The switch will make it a little easier to blog. Joe & Carol Thompson have done a wonderful job setting up the new site, and I look forward to the stories, pictures, videos, and links we have to share in the days ahead.
As we prepare for this transition, I’ve got to say a “THANK YOU” to the man who launched us into the blogosphere. If it wasn’t for my friend, Chuck Fischer, we never would have begun this public record of our lives. I’m so grateful to the man who taught me everything I know about Umbraco (and code, html, batch loading, tagging, etc.). He made it possible for us to continue our communication with family and friends, not matter how far away we got geographically. Facebook and Twitter have changed that long distance communication for us in the last year; but if it wasn’t for Chuck’s opening the blog door for us, it would have made saying goodbye even more difficult. Thanks Chuck, I really do love you. (In that manly man kinda way.)
I also need to add a new THANK YOU to Joe & Carol for making this transition easy and smooth. They began by teaching me with our Waterbrook website change, and continue as I get to know this new format. Having good people around you makes it easy to look good.
Now that the changes have occurred, thanks for finding us! Please keep checking back here at www.DentonsLive.com. Who know’s, I might even say something about YOU next time.
The Unexamined and Unexpected Life,
Jeff
